Dierhagens Historie ergründen

In the 19th century the district of Dändorf was a seamen's community. Impressed of the numerous captain's and fishermen's houses it has been occasionally considered as being the most wealthy village of Mecklenburg. The community profited from the long lasting salt transportation.

At the beach entrance number 12 you will see a buidling with a special upper part, also known as "coffee mill". From these, just typical for Dierhagen, drafted tower chambers you have a wonderful glance over the Baltic Sea whereas the actual building remains hidden behind the dunes.

In the night from 13 to 14 November 1930 the Finland three-mast schooner "Janne" grounded during a heavy north-west storm on the beach of Dierhagen. Despite high efforts of salvage staff it could not have been refloated. Having shallow water you can discover the last remainders of the wreck from the beach.

Thereupon you find a rare memorial of the Mecklenburg surveying history: a "Friedrich-Franz-Stein", as abbreviation engraved: F.F.. Numerous grand dukes of Mecklenburg were named Friedrich-Franz. The stone has been affixed here between 1896 and 1897 and served as number 363 of the triangulation II. rank. The church spire in the village is the other historic surveying point. In the country just few F.F. - stones could have been preserved. You can find it on the right side running the bicycle track from Dierhagen Strand to Neuhaus.

Das erste Schulhaus in Dierhags ist wahrscheinlich im letzten Drittel des 18. Jahrhunderts gebaut worden.
