Baltic resort Ahrenshoop

More than 100 years ago the painter Paul Müller-Kaempff discovered the community of Ahresnhoop and was impressed by the inviolacy and beauty of the landscape between sea and inner bay.

Initially painters and their students worked in the nature, but soon bathers came along. Out of the paint artist's community an artist's community with a special charisma developed during the following decades. Its full of character appearance with a building development adjusted to the landscape and of numerous thatched roofs could have been conserved up until now.

It is the changeover of cliff line and plane shore, wide inner bay meadows and the Darß forest in the national park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft", the Baltic Sea and the inner bay waters, characterising the landscape at the borderline between Mecklenburg and West Pommerania.

The special lighting conditions and the wide sky have then attracted the painters and now inspire the current residented artists.

A diversified offer of cultural events, numerous galleries and studios as well as regular art exhibitions, but also the possibility to being creative yourself, are dominating the Ahrenshoop air. Traditionally Ahrenshoop is the cultural centre of the region.

All seasons long Ahrenshoop invites you to meet an impressive landscape and their folks.
