Oceanography museum

The German museum for oceanography with its large and modern exhibitions and aquaria gives comprehensible and manifold insights into the sea life and its use and exploration by the humans.

Unhurriedly the Stralsunder ocean turtles swim roundings through the biggest turtles aquarium in Germany, a 350,000 litre big pool.

These extensive and modern exhibitions give comprehensible and manifold insights into the sea life and its use and exploration by the humans. The presentation of the GDR fishery history is another focus.

The sea life exhibitions are imposingly amended by a fascinating diversity of domestic and tropical marine animals in 45 aquaria.

The oceanography museum is situated in the former cloister St. Katharinen. It is the most visited museum in Northern Germany. Private parking is not available. Public parking: Knieperwall, harbour, Neuer Markt, car park Weingartenbastion.

Opening hours:

July - August daily from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

September - June daily from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

24 and 31 December closed, 1 January opened from 12:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
